Visitors’ Center
During your stay, find tourism information at the Galveston Island Visitors Center, located in the carriage house of Ashton Villa, 2328 Broadway. The friendly and knowledgeable staff is there to help guests discover the many treasurers of Galveston Island. Ask for a points of interest map. Open 7 days, 9 am – 5 pm.
Fishing and crabbing
Galveston is arguably the best fishing and crabbing destination in Texas. With legendary fishing action from the Galveston Bay to the deep blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico, there is a wide variety of species to catch.
Catch the fish of a lifetime while offshore fishing Galveston – Kingfish, Tuna, Mahi Mahi, and more. Bottom fishing around Galveston presents an opportunity to catch Grouper, Snapper, and Sharks. Or just drop a line close to shore and you may catch
inshore species such as Flounder, Redfish, Sea Trout, and more.

Galveston’s rich history
The island has a rich history. For many years, the native Karankawa tribe fished here. Spanish explorers started charting the coast by the early 1500s, and pirates hauled their booty onshore in the 1800s. In 1900, a devastating hurricane killed more than 6,000. Afterward, in an amazing engineering feat, the entire city was raised off the ground, in some areas as much as 17 feet.
