Galveston is well known as a place for fun in the sun. But did you know that visiting Galveston can make you happier? It’s true.
Have you ever wondered why you feel so good after going to an art museum? Research has shown that looking at and analyzing artwork releases dopamine in the brain – it’s the falling in love hormone that makes you giddy and content.
Studies have also shown that viewing art can lead to a decrease in cortisol, the stress hormone, resulting in better health.
So, are you ready for a big dose of happiness and less stress? Galveston has many galleries and museums, as well as other places where art can be found.
For some, art is only temporary – grains of sand that form spectacular sandcastle displays, only to be washed away with the tides.
For others, happiness means a stroll through the galleries and museums that feature works by local, national, and international talents.
Whether you prefer modern, contemporary, pop, impressionism, American, abstract, photographic, new media, basketry, Asian … or even art cars, there is collection sure to help you crack a smile and shrug off the stress. Bring a friend or family member along, and you can forge some happy memories together.
Galveston RV Resort & Marina is welcoming guests who plan to attend the upcoming Artwalk on August 25. The popular event will be hosted by the Galveston Arts Center in the heart of Galveston’s historic downtown district. During this free event, downtown Galveston’s many art galleries and art spaces open their doors for an evening of art viewing, wine, hors d’oeuvres, music, and more. Most of the festivities take place on Post Office Street. For a list of participating locations, visit: www.galveston.com/artwork.
